Video: Deap Vally – Baby I Call Hell
Deap thrills: Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards
Brought together through a love of crocheting and an affinity for the blues, Deap Vally have released a video for their song Baby I Call Hell.
The single is out on June 17 and is taken from forthcoming debut album Sistrionix (June 24).
Deap Vally are two girls from Los Angeles – Lindsey Troy (guitar, vocals) and Julie Edwards (drums, vocals) – who explain their modus operandi thusly: “We are Valley Girls. We sing the blues. We play rock’n’roll. We sweat. We move. We groove. We are Deap Vally.”
Remarkably, Troy and Edwards did actually first meet at a needlework class last year.
Deap Vally head to the UK next week for three shows at The Great Escape in Brighton (May 16-18), before a headline date at London’s Scala on May 22. Additionally they play Liverpool East Village Arts Club May 21, Nottingham Dot To Dot Festival 23, Glasgow Òran Mór 28 and St Austell The Eden Session June 29.
The girls – who have been described as “a scuzzy White Stripes-meets-Led Zeppelin rock’n’roll duo” – will also appear at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in August.
