The NCAA will be moving the 2020 Division II and Division III men’s basketball championships to Atlanta to be held in conjunction with the Division I Final Four.
The NCAA most recently held a combined men’s basketball championship in 2013 – also in Atlanta.
“It is our understanding that the NCAA may choose to combine the men’s basketball championships from time to time in future years as it has been well received by participating student-athletes, coaches and fans across the divisions,” said Eric Marvin, Director of the Evansville Sports Corporation.
Though the 2020 Division II Championship game will move to Atlanta, Evansville will still host the quarterfinals and semifinals.
The championship game will be played in Atlanta the following week in conjunction with the Final Four.
The Evansville Sports Corporation and the University of Southern Indiana will co-host the event and are working with the NCAA to finalize details related to the change.
The Division II Men’s Basketball Championship is contracted to be held in Evansville through 2022.
“The possibility of extending the contract through 2023 as a result of the change is being discussed with NCAA officials.”
