Oh man! This was probably the closest any of us are going to get to Woodstock 50!
Santana kicked off their 2 hour set with Soul Sacrifice (which they performed in 1969 at Woodstock) and intertwined some video from then and now which really set the tone of peace, love, and happiness for the show. The set list was fantastic and had the crowd (including Trish Knight and myself) dancing, singing along, clapping our hands, stomping our feet. Good times all around.
Some highlights include the barefoot bass player jumping to and fro, grinning from ear to ear. The drummer (Cindy) was ON FIRE! Percussion is the jam with Santana and the two other percussionists were also fantastic. The vocalists (one who also plays more percussion instruments and the other intertwines some trombone playing) were equally matched for Carlos’ epic guitar. It was just AWESOME! It was also pretty cool when Santana had Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston of The Doobie Brothers join onstage for a rendition of The Zombies-She’s Not There and John Lee Hooker-Boogie Woman. Total jam fest!
