A caring teacher wanted to find a way to help people show their support for the class of 2020, so she came up with a project. Kelli Wyatt, a Philadelphia middle school teacher, started Adopt a High School Senior, a Facebook group that connects 2020 grads with people who want to encourage these teens who missed out on important milestones at the end of their high school careers.
In an effort to support the Class of 2020, former graduates across social media took part in a viral “senior photo challenge,” where they shared their own personal photos from past proms or graduations. https://t.co/wf4KV7zY6J

Parents can request to join the group and share a short biography and photos of their grad. Then adopters can virtually connect with students and later send cards, words of encouragement, online registry gifts, or whatever they’re inspired to give. Over 7-thousand people have joined in just over a month and more than 2-thousand members have adopted seniors so far.
Wyatt also started an Adopt-A-Senior scholarship fund because so many reached out asking how they could donate to support the grads. The fund has received more than $30-thousand and most of that has already been distributed to seniors in $1,000 awards. “It extended far beyond anything I ever expected,” Wyatt says. “Regardless of what’s going on in the world, people still want to do good things for others.”
