Jeff Bezos is getting slammed on social media for making “tone-deaf” comments after his space flight.
The Amazon billionaire blasted off to the edge of space with three others on Tuesday on a rocket designed by his Blue Origin space company, and held a press conference after the eleven-minute flight. During his comments he thanked “every Amazon employee and every Amazon customer,” adding “you guys paid for all this.”
The comments didn’t fly with Amazon customers online, who called it tone-deaf, and asked Bezos for a refund. Not only that, but Senator Elizabeth Warren ripped into the Amazon founder on Twitter saying “Forgot to thank all the hardworking Americans who actually paid taxes to keep this country running while he and Amazon paid nothing.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez then doubled down noting “Yes, Amazon workers did pay for this – with lower wages, union busting, a frenzied and inhumane workplace, and delivery drivers not having health insurance during a pandemic.”
Before the flight, nearly 165 thousand people signed a petition for him to stay in space.
