Vanderburgh County opted out at first when offered a settlement with opioid drug companies, because they didn’t feel they’d benefit from it.
Now that the county has decided to opt in, it could bring in around $4 million for programs helping those struggling with addiction.
Officials say, what helped to change their mind was a current state legislation that made the procedure easier to understand.
The money will be spread out over 18 years, meaning the county will receive close to $200,000 each year.
The money will start rolling in over the next few months.
