In recognition of Colorectal Cancer month, Deaconess Gastroenterology is hosting a FREE drive-thru colon cancer screening for the community. On Saturday, March 18, from 8 AM – 12 PM at Deaconess GI Specialty Center, attendees can enjoy coffee and a bran muffin, receive a free FIT screening kit or schedule a colonoscopy. Regular screening, beginning at age 45, is the key to preventing colorectal cancer and finding it early.
According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women in the United States. It has a 90% survival rate when cancer is found and treated early.
“Colorectal Cancer screening is so important! It is the 3rd most common cancer in both men and women, yet one of the most preventable types of cancer. Everyone 45 years and older are at risk and qualify to be screened. Colonoscopy is an easy option that can screen and treat in the same visit. Another option is a home test that can evaluate your risk and determine if a colonoscopy is needed. Whatever you choose, just know that the best screening test is the one that gets done” said Dr. Mia Hindi, Deaconess Physician.
