Have you ever made fun of someone’s accent? Or have you been on the receiving end? Chances are, you have ended up in one or even both of those categories, especially when you consider just how many regional accents and dialects there are her in the United States and around the world.
Accents are the link to where we’re from. They can be embraced, and many are considered charming to outsiders. However, sometimes they can also be linked to ridicule and discrimination. That’s why, in France, they have passed legislation to outlaw discrimination of regional accents to the tune of about $50,000.
