The City of Mount Vernon will have the first Safe Haven Baby Box in southwest Indiana.
It was installed on the north side of the fire station on College Avenue.
The baby box is designed to be a safe drop-off point for infants, if the mother feels she can no longer care for the child. It’s a last resort for women in crisis.
There are eight baby boxes in Indiana, two in Ohio and six in Arizona. To reach the Safe Haven Crisis Line, call 1-866-99Baby1.
