Think you know your significant other better than anyone else in the world? Think again. If they’ve been using social media for more than a minute of their life, there’s a good chance that Mark Zuckerberg and his Facebook algorithms know your partner better than you ever will.
According to a recent study, it takes around 300 likes for an algorithm to know your significant other better than you. And not just on surface things like what TV shows they prefer but seriously deep aspects of their personality. When given enough data, algorithms are better at predicting someone’s openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism than their spouse.
But on a positive note, the study did find partners do indeed know each other best. The algorithm only took 150 likes to know someone better than their parents or siblings, 70 likes to know them better than friends, and a measly 10 likes to know them better than their coworkers.
