The Evansville Rescue Mission held a dedication ceremony for the new Centennial Center on Sunday.
It’s an extension of the downtown ministry campus.
“We feel like this is going to take the Evansville Rescue Mission to a brand new level,” said President and CEO Tracy Gorman. “We are going to be able to help more people than we’ve ever helped before in so ways we’ve identified and in ways we haven’t even thought about.”
The Centennial Center has a Great Room for chapel services and a coffee shop, the Mission Grounds Café. It will be utilized on a daily basis as both a day shelter and a resource center.
Guests will have a space to socialize, study, relax, play games and surf the Internet while enjoying a cup of coffee or a snack.
For the first time, the Rescue Mission will be able to offer Transitional Housing to qualifying individuals. These 18 spaces will be awarded through an application process to graduates of the PACES program.
The total project cost of the Centennial Center is estimated at $1.58 million. So far, $1.1 million has been raised by the Rescue Mission.
“We still need to raise about $480,000 by the end of the year,” Gorman added. “We believe the community is going to help us do that.”
Mayor Winnecke read a special proclamation during Sunday’s ceremony, proclaiming March 10th as “Centennial Center Dedication Day” in Evansville.
