A groundbreaking was held today for the new Deaconess Clinic downtown.
It will be constructed on the campus of the new medical school, the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences. The facility will replace the old Welborn Clinic.
“Most of the doctors currently in the building are going to move over there,” explained Dr. Allen White, Chief Medical Officer. “It is going to be family medicine, internal medicine, rheumatology, endocrinology, allergy and immunology, behavior health, lab and x-ray services.”
The facility will also contain a Deaconess Clinic Express, the seventh in the region. It will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“The IU School of Medicine will be occupying 10,000 square feet of space, which will be dedicated to clinical research and the support of advanced medicine,” White added.
The facility will be located along Southeast Fifth Street, between Locust and Walnut. It will open in the Spring of 2020.
