Peter Tork, the zany, often clueless bass player for the Monkees has died.
According to the Washington Post, Ann Thorkelson, Tork’s sister, says he died of adenoid cyctic carcinoma, a rare cancer affecting the tongue, a malady from which he suffered since 2009.
Tork, an accomplished musician, won an audition for a television series seeking to emulate the mood of A Hard Days Night starring The Beatles.
Tork was The Monkees’ version of Ringo, off-beat, hapless, and absorber of the consequences of the schemes of his band-mates. Fellow Monkee Davy Jones died in 2012.
Tork was 77 years old.
