The Ronald McDonald House will open a second location on the Deaconess Gateway campus.
Unlike the existing building, which is a free-standing structure, this new facility will be housed within the Gateway complex near the Women’s Hospital.
“In the past two years, a new house opened in South Bend, Indiana with the same type of design,” explained Abigail Adler, Development Director. “It is actually under the same roof as the existing hospital.”
There are several benefits to this design plan.
“Obviously, that helps us with construction costs,” Adler added. “But it is also a psychological factor…you are under the same roof as your child.”
Adler says it’s difficult for parents to leave their child in the hospital and stay several miles away.
The new Ronald McDonald House will have 16 bedrooms, kitchen and dining space, laundry services and room for family activities.

With the second location, the non-profit will nearly triple the number of families served.
