We have heard time and time again about bridezillas who have made outrageous demands of their bridesmaids. Well, one woman has shared how she dealt with the expectations she had for her bridal party, and she is receiving praise for it on social media.
A TikToker named Lisa responded to a post from a bridesmaid who commented that she didn’t realize being one would cost three paychecks and more. Lisa then offered a “tip” to future brides about how she managed expectations, saying she gave all her bridesmaids a “transparency letter.” She explained that the letter gave a detailed description of what she expected, handing it to potential bridesmaids in a “cute little envelope” with a gift box.
“And in that letter, I outlined time commitments,” Lisa said. “So I told them if they live over an hour away, they didn’t have to worry about making it to the bridal shower, or to go wedding dress shopping with me, it was fine.” She also told them she’d pay for hair and makeup but they’d be responsible for the dress, but could pick out the style, as long as it was in the specific color of her choosing. The most important part of the letter though, was that Lisa told them it was perfectly okay for them to say no, insisting “we would still be friends and that they could keep all gifts within the bridesmaid proposal box.” She even says one gal did turn her down, and they are still friends.
- The post has since been viewed 3.4 million times, and while some still questioned making their bridesmaids pay for anything, others felt her approach was the “mature way of handling it.” Lisa later reiterated that she made the post just to introduce the idea of brides being more “transparent” to their bridal party, and also give them the options to say no without any recourse.
