An approaching storm system will bring winter weather to the Tri-State.
“The first snow has prompted a Winter Storm Warning,” said 14 First Alert Meteorologist Byron Douglas. “That’s in effect from 6pm tonight until Noon on Saturday.”
The region will see mainly snow through most of the night, slowly transitioning over to rain as temperatures move above freezing on Saturday.
The Evansville metro could receive anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of snow. The totals will be lower over western Kentucky and higher in southern Illinois.
“We are expecting maybe a couple of inches along our Ohio River border counties and trailing off to about an inch of snow to the south,” said Keith Todd of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Road crews have been pre-treating with a brine mixture ahead of the storm.
Travel conditions could become hazardous late tonight into early Saturday.
