A night of terror and survival was what one woman experienced after a day of snowboarding near Lake Tahoe, California. Monica Laso was visiting the Heavenly Ski Resort for the first time when it was getting late and wanted to take the gondola down because she was tired. At 4:58pm, she got on the lift when just two minutes later, the gondola shuts off, leaving her stranded and alone. No phone, no light, and no one around to hear her, Monica was stuck for 15 hours through the night until the resort opened the next day.

She kept warm by rubbing her hands and feet together, even losing some of her voice trying to scream for help. Her friends reported her missing when they couldn’t get a hold of her. Finally, after 15 hours in freezing cold temperatures, the gondola turned on to return her to the bottom of the hill where workers were stunned to see someone still on the lift. “I was frustrated,” Monica told reporters. Police and resort officials are looking into how something like this could have happened.
