A controlled burn is planned for Howell Wetlands sometime in the next four weeks.
Officials say prairie ecosystems rely on periodic fire to maintain their health and balance.
Burns also help control invasive species and clear space for native plants to reestablish and grow.
The City of Evansville, the Fire Department, and the Vanderburgh County Health Department have all been notified.
The fires can only happen during very specific weather conditions, so a date has not been released at this time.
