TBILISI (Reuters) – A leader of one of Georgia’s four main opposition parties was detained by police after being beaten unconscious in the capital Tbilisi, his party said on Wednesday.
The Coalition for Change party published video on X showing an unmoving Nika Gvaramia being carried by the arms and legs by several men down a street.
It said Gvaramia was “thrown into a detention car as he was physically assaulted and unconscious”.
The South Caucasus country has plunged into political crisis as Georgians hold big street protests, supported by opposition parties, against the government’s decision to suspend talks on joining the European Union.
