Indiana State Police has started an investigation involving a Marion Health Police Officer.
Sunday morning, first responders and medical staff found 25-year-old Ronnell Johnson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Further investigation indicated that Officer Johnson was handling his personal handgun when it discharged, striking him.
Life-saving measures were administered, but were unsuccessful.
The investigation continues, and an autopsy has been scheduled.
