An investigation is underway following an inmate’s death at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
The incident happened on September 6 inside the booking area holding cell containing multiple new arrestees.
Within minutes of being there, the inmate improvised a ligature device and applied it to their neck.
Once made aware, jail staff initiated life-saving measures.
The inmate was then transported to the hospital and removed from life support on Friday.
The name of the inmate has not been released.
