The Blue Bridge in Owensboro will not reopen on January 16.
On Monday, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet received notice from American Contracting stating that the extension will last until the end of the month.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet states that the reason for the delay is that the contractor failed to work numerous days during the holidays.
The contractor is currently working on replacing around 900 feet of bridge deck on the Indiana approach to the main bridge truss.
Additionally, 500 feet of concrete must be poured before the bridge can be reopened.
As of January 5, the company has been charged over $1.5 million in Liquidated Damages for failure to meet their contract obligations.
