Keeping your home warm during the winter months comes with potential dangers.
The Ohio Township Fire Department would like to remind residents of the best ways to stay safe.
According to Chief Scott Foreman, space heaters are the number one cause of house fires during the winter months.
Make sure heaters are placed at least 3 feet away from all objects.
Only use UL-certified space heaters with tip-over protection, plugged directly into wall outlets.
Never use stoves or kerosene to heat your home.
This creates a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Always have an exit plan and know what to do in case of a fire, and have a designated meeting place.
